It's the fall shopping season, and it's a good one, says Nina Garcia, fashion director at Marie Claire and "Project Runway" judge. "This is not a season that you have to spend a lot of money to get into the trends," she says. "It's a very conservative and classic season, everything is ladylike or minimal."
The need for a comfortable coat is permanent all year long. Even when the weather is less harsh during the day, usually, at night the temperature will drop, and in some cases will drop drastically (20 degrees or more). Because of this, it's extremely important to have a coat to maintain the body temperature within comfortable ranges.
However, most coats aren't appropriate for all seasons. For each season it's necessary to have multiple types of coats but in some cases one coat may fit your needs for more than one season. To help the choice of a coat in each season we present a set of tips:
Spring: Spring is a beautiful time of year. The sun appears often and most days already have an enjoyable temperature. However, wind or at least some breeze are a constant during the season. The perfect coat for this season is a trench coat. The trench coat will keep your body heat and help to protect you in eventual rainy days. A trench coat has a certain style and transmit respectability and elegance, but is very comfortable. Can be used in the office and in a evening program.
A rain coat can also be very useful. A rain coat should be water proof and usually made of various synthetic materials. These water proof materials keeps you dry however they can be less than practical in days of sun when the weather prediction failed. If you can afford coats, buy a rain coat so your other coats won't become damaged as easily. If not, then simple buy a trench coat.
Summer: Summer season brings hot days and coats are useless most of the days. Nevertheless, a light jacket or sport coat will be enough for all summer requirements. During the summer, you can use a nice linen coat for work. For casual days, linen is a good material still. Another option are cotton jackets which will provide a little more protection.
Fall: Fall season is chillier and rain is frequent. Colder and harsh days are coming so you can take out your winter coats. Fall coats are perhaps the same used in Spring. Trench coats are perfect for the fall since there usually have protective inner lining that will protect you from cold. They are also large enough in order to allow you to use a sweater underneath when it starts to get really cold. This characteristics, makes possible to use the trench coat during the winter depending on how much harsh are the winter in your region. Nevertheless, a trench coat can be very stylish and modern and will last a long time. Another fall option is the pea coat. These short wool jackets are great for keeping you warm above all. Since it is fall and sometimes the extreme cold is yet to come, the short jackets are a good option. Finally, suede or leather coats work well in the fall since they provide extra warmth that you don't need in the summer.
Winter: Winter is the season of coats. Most people have multiple winter coats. While the pea coat and trench coat can both be worn at this time, you will want something warmer if in your region snow and colder weather are common. prefer a wool or cashmere long coat. Both these materials will keep you very warm. Another coat is the down coat or the puffy jacket. These coats have extra lining or layers that will keep you extra warm.
Beyond the seasonal coats are coats you need for the evening programs. These coats are made of materials like satin or linen. Additionally, you will want an office blazer or suit jacket to wear to work and important meetings. Another thing, a casual pullover or track jacket can be very useful when you work out or do any outdoor activity. Coat are one of the most important things to have in your wardrobe. In any season, choose coats that can make you comfortable, stylish and elegant. However, in harsh winters something to protected you from extreme cold supersedes everything.
